Web Accessibility Statement for Indy Early Learning

Indy Early Learning is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Our Commitment

We believe that everyone should have full and equal access to our digital content, regardless of ability. Our commitment is to provide a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standards. We strive to make our website a welcoming and usable experience for all.

Accessibility Standards and Efforts

To help us make the Indy Early Learning website a positive place for everyone, we use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user-friendly for everyone.

Here are some of the efforts we have implemented to enhance accessibility:

  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements and navigation can be accessed and operated using only a keyboard.
  • Clear Structure: We use clear and consistent headings, lists, and semantic HTML to improve navigation and readability for screen readers.
  • Form Accessibility: Forms include clear labels, instructions, and error handling to assist users with input.
  • Focus Indicators: Clearly visible focus indicators are provided for interactive elements.

Technologies Used

Accessibility of Indy Early Learning relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Known Limitations and Ongoing Efforts

While we strive to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website at all times. We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our content and functionality.

Some areas we are actively working on include:

  • Color contrast falls below the required ratio on the Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Accessibility links in our footer on every page, and on seven elements of our Incentives page. A further six elements could not be checked automatically, so a manual review is outstanding.
  • Twenty-seven links across the site have no text that a screen reader can announce, including our logo links and our partner logo link. A fix has been written and is waiting to be deployed.
  • The Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Accessibility links in our footer do not yet lead anywhere.
  • Our three logo images carry empty alternative text, so people using a screen reader are given no description of them.
  • Some of our images and stylesheets are requested over an insecure connection and are therefore blocked by the browser, so two stylesheets and two images, including our partner logo, do not load for visitors.
  • One field on our application form is labelled Phone Number but prompts for an Indianapolis neighborhood, which may mislead anyone relying on the label.
  • Our application form uses an image based CAPTCHA that has no non-visual alternative.
  • Links inside body text are distinguished from the surrounding text by color alone.
  • We have not yet confirmed by manual testing that our pages reflow correctly at a 320 pixel screen width, nor that reading order and screen reader semantics are correct throughout.

We regularly review our website and conduct accessibility audits to identify and fix issues.
